Elinikäisestä oppimisesta tuli trendisana Euroopassa 1990-luvun puolivälissä, ja se on nyt ehkä ajankohtaisempaa kuin koskaan aiemmin. Elinikäisellä oppimisella tarkoitetaan ajatusta siitä, että ihminen oppii uutta koko elämänsä ajan. Elinikäinen oppiminen paitsi helpottaa työllistymistä myös tukee henkilökohtaista kehitystä.
